THA’s new leadership team to support growth of the Tasmanian hemp industry

The Tasmanian Hemp Association (THA) is strengthening its leadership capacity with two new executive appointments, Anne Gigney as Executive Officer and Vanessa Scott as Events and Partnerships Coordinator, marking an exciting new phase of growth and industry development.

With decades of combined experience across industry and economic development, stakeholder engagement, communications and business growth, Anne and Vanessa will spearhead THA’s mission to support Tasmania’s rapidly evolving hemp sector, from on-farm production to value-added products and global markets.

They are supported by Administration Manager Sam Pini and the Tasmanian Hemp Association Board and Executive including current President, Andi Lucas and Vice President Ian Whitehouse.

THA President Andi Lucas said the appointments reflect the Association’s commitment to strengthening the industry’s voice and expanding its impact.

“We’re delighted to welcome Anne and Vanessa to our team,” Andi Lucas said. “Their combined expertise will position the THA to better advocate for our members, grow industry capability, and champion hemp as a key part of Tasmania’s future economy.  Our association is very grateful to the Tasmanian Government for the ongoing grant support that is allowing us to engage such incredibly high calibre staff”.

Anne Gigney is recognised for her leadership in Australia’s distilling and beverage sectors, as the founder of The Distillers Institute and the Tasmanian Whisky Academy. She brings extensive expertise in workforce development, industry training, strategic communications and business strategy.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Tasmanian Hemp Association at a time when the industry is poised for significant growth,” Anne said. “Tasmania is uniquely positioned to build the profile of the hemp industry in the state and take a lead in sustainable hemp production nationally. I look forward to supporting the industry and its members and driving collaboration across the sector.”

Vanessa Scott brings a truly global perspective, having worked in Tasmania, nationally and internationally. Her experience spans stakeholder engagement, fundraising, communications, project and people management, and business development across the education, government, infrastructure and engineering sectors.

“Hemp has extraordinary potential to transform industries, from textiles and food to construction and sustainability,” Vanessa said. “I’m passionate about working with the team to build meaningful partnerships and delivering events that bring our members and stakeholders together to unlock that potential. ”

The Tasmanian Hemp Association continues to advocate for an enabling regulatory environment, deliver events focused on community education, and training for industry participants, and connect growers, processors and innovators to new opportunities.
