$2.5m boost from AgriFutures

A new research program is aimed at boosting Australia’s hemp industry.

Led by Southern Cross University in northern NSW, the AIHPR (Australian Industrial Hemp Project of Research) is consulting with industrial hemp growers, processors, agronomists and researchers to outline a pathway forward.

The SCU has over 15 years’ experience in hemp research, indicating academia’s recognition of the significance of hemp.

The hemp program is focused on four areas: hemp seeds and varieties, hemp primary production, hemp products and hemp sustainability. The team will also assess the value-add of hemp to end-product quality and animal welfare.
